Shopify Rollouts vs A/B testing apps
Shopify Rollouts lets eligible stores schedule theme changes and run native experiments on a whole theme or checkout setting, free. It does not test single sections, copy, prices or audiences, and it does not write tests for you. Apps cover element, price and audience tests; done-for-you services also write them.
What each covers
| Shopify Rollouts | Testing apps | Luria | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whole-theme test | Yes | Some | No (tests sections and copy) |
| Single section or headline | No | Yes | Yes |
| Price tests | No | Some (e.g. Intelligems) | Only with your OK |
| Writes the variants | No | Some suggest ideas | Yes |
| Traffic moves to the winner | No | Rarely | Yes |
| Cost | Included on eligible plans | Monthly app fee | From $79 a month |
Check Shopify's help center for which plans include experiments; it has changed during 2026.
Which to use
- Rollouts before launching a redesign: test the new theme against the old one.
- An app when your team wants to design element, price or audience tests.
- Luria when you want tests written and run continuously on real orders. See all Shopify testing apps.
Questions
Can I use Shopify Rollouts and a testing app together?
Yes, on different things. Do not run a theme experiment and an element test on the same pages at the same time; the two would mix their results.
