What is AI split testing?
AI split testing is A/B testing where software does the work a CRO team used to do: it picks what to test, writes the new version, shows it to part of your traffic next to your current page, moves traffic toward the winner and keeps the change only when the result is clear.
How AI split testing works, step by step
- The tool reads your pages and your goal (orders, sign-ups, booked calls).
- It writes a new version of one block: a headline, offer, button, section or the order of sections.
- Each visitor is assigned one version and keeps it. Your unchanged page stays live as the control.
- As results come in, more traffic goes to the version that is winning (a multi-armed bandit, often Thompson sampling).
- When one version is clearly better, it becomes the new page and the next test starts.
How it differs from classic A/B testing
| Classic A/B test | AI split testing | |
|---|---|---|
| Test ideas | Your team | The software, from your pages and data |
| Variant copy and design | Your team | The software writes it |
| Traffic split | Fixed, usually 50/50 | Shifts toward the winner during the test |
| When it ends | After a sample size you set | When the winner is clear, then the next test starts |
What to check before trusting one
- A held-out control. Your original page must keep getting traffic, or no one can prove the AI helped. (What a holdout control is.)
- Real conversions. Judged on orders, leads or bookings, not clicks.
- Limits. What it may never touch: prices, checkout, legal text.
- An off switch. How fast every change can be undone.
Where Luria fits
Luria is an AI split-testing service for Shopify and any website. It writes one change at a time, keeps your page as a held-out control (never below 10% of traffic), keeps a change only when it is 95% sure after 200+ visits per version, and counts real orders. Questions
Is AI split testing the same as personalization?
No. Split testing finds one version that works better for everyone, proven against a control. Personalization shows different visitors different content. Some tools do both; ask which one the AI is doing.
Does AI split testing need a lot of traffic?
It needs the same visits per version as any test, but bandits waste fewer visits on losing versions. Below a few thousand visitors a month, tests take weeks. See sample size by conversion rate.
